Black Sabbath's self-titled debut broke new ground and heralded the inception of heavy metal adopting a sonic composite of blues, acid and progressive rock genres, the band were the antipode of the flower power generation in that they innovated rather than followed suit. “The first Sabbath record I got was the one before this one, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,” he said. That same year, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich named the band’s Sabotage LP as his favorite from the band, in a list he made of his favorite metal albums for Rolling Stone, and explained why he liked that one more than the others. I think we just sort of said, ‘All right, I’m going.'” Evil Woman, Dont Play Your Games With Me - Black Sabbath (3. “Nobody really knew what to say to each other. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath VINYL on Golden Discs. “It was so weird saying goodbye after the sessions,” Iommi told Rolling Stonethat year. After that, they did one last jam session privately, which they filmed for a DVD release. The band played its final concert in Birmingham, England - where they had formed in 1968 - in 2017. The set will be available only as a numbered collector’s edition, limited to 3,000 copies. And because die-hard Sabbaholics likely already own the band’s canon, the group is including a reproduction of “Evil Woman” seven-inch (backed with “Wicked World”) and a new 12-inch compilation of their mono singles, dubbed Monomania (a pun off their Sabotage deep cut “Megalomania”), which includes two previously unreleased mixes. ![]() Those LPs will now make up a new vinyl-only box set, The Vinyl Collection 1970 – 1978, which is due out September 6th. From the clanging opening chords of “Black Sabbath” and lumbering siren’s call of “War Pigs” to the demon’s cry of “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and proto-thrash riffs of “Symptom of the Universe,” the Iron Man laid the blueprint for the genre on their first eight albums. Hope that helps a little bit! If either of you have heard any more since your posts, I'd love to knowBlack Sabbath wrote the book on heavy, and their first decade’s worth of albums represent the Old Testament in the book of metal. Sabotage: As with S/T, haven't purchased this one either. Never heard this album (which wasn't one of my faves of the first 6) sound as good as it did until I heard Bellman's cut. SBS: Chris Bellman Rhino version, all the way. I own it, and apart from an annoying pop every rotation for around 30 secs once the big opening riff hits, it sounds great.or at least as great as the infamously murky Vol 4 can sound. This is a vinyl LP pressing of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath by Black Sabbath. The English rock band originally released their fifth studio album in December 1973. Vol 4: Haven't heard the Sanctuary version (and haven't seen any reviews either, for that matter), but the Chris Bellman-cut Rhino version seems to be the winner here. Like Paranoid, the Rhino version is a little bright, apparently. MOR: Sanctuary seems to be the pick for MOR. Paranoid: due to War Pigs volume glitch, and the mastering being a little bright overall in the Rhino version, Sanctuary seems to be the way to go. ![]() Haven't purchased yet, but will probably go with Sanctuary as it has the original UK track-listing (I'm in the minority of folks who prefer Evil Woman to Wicked World) S/T: both Rhino and Sanctuary reissues seem to be solid.
